Ep 263: Bufnagle Classic Re-drop: Halloween Special: Frankenstein — Who Really Is the Monster?

Season 1 Episode 263

Re-dropping a classic episode from October 2023: Rafe is joined this week by Big Brain Smart Head™ Angela Nash to discuss Mary Shelley's novel Frankenstein.  As Rafe recounts the story, Angela provides a rich commentary on the understanding of the tale.

If you haven't read the book but know anything of "Frankenstein", chances are that everything you know about the story is wrong.

Set in Geneva in the early 1800s, the novel tells a cautionary tale of a Victor Frankenstein, a truly mad scientist, and a monster that he creates by trying to understand how life animates the material world.  The story touches on a  wonderfully rich number of broad themes (Good and Evil, Truth, Virtue, Beauty, Justice, Mercy, and the usual Bufnaglely topics) but the primary theme is an investigation into loneliness and the need for human companionship.
